Educational aim: By the end of this lesson, Ss will be able to: Get the general information about the undersea world. Revise structure with modal verb “should” and “shouldn’t” and conditional sentence type 2 that Ss have been taught in the secondary school. 2. Skill : Distinguish the sounds /iə/, / eə/ and /uə/; pronounce the words and sentences containing these sounds correctly. How to use the grammar: modal verb “should” and “shouldn’t”, and the conditional sentence type 2. 3. Attitude: Active to broaden and percept the knowledge. II. Knowledge: Ss learn more the use of modal verbs “should” and “shouldn’t” in appropriate context. Ss know the form, the usage of the second type of conditional sentences. II. Method and Teaching aids 1. Method: Communicative approach: teacher and students, students and students, students and teacher. Work in groups, work in individually, work in pairs. 2. Teaching aids: Poster, word cards, pictures, textbook (English 10), hand-outs IV. Procedure: 1. Organization: - 10A16 ( ) Ask Ss to sing a song before learning new lesson. 2. New lesson: Lead in the new lesson: - Today, we will study two parts: pronunciation and grammar: + Part 1: Pronunciation: the dipthonghs /iə/, / eə/ and /uə/. + Part 2: Grammar “the form and use of modal verb “should” and “shouldn’t”, and the second type of contional sentences. Unit 9: Undersea world Period 59: Language focus 1. Modal verb: should and shouldn’t *Situation 1: He should wear a helmet should+ V *Situation 2: You shouldn’t forget the passport shouldn’t+ V FORM: S+ should+ V S+ shouldn’t+ V USAGE: You can use should or shoudln’t to give advice or to give an opinion: You should do something= it is a good thing to do or the right thing to do. You shouldn't do something= it isn't a good thing to do We usually use shouldwith I think/ I don't think/ Do you think? PRACTICE (handouts) Using pictures to make sentences with should or shouldn’t and given phrases. (HANDOUT- NUMBER 1) (at the end of the lesson plan) Answers: 1- She should behave well. 2- They shouldn’t fight. 3- They should plants trees. 4- He shouldn’t break things. 5- They shouldn’t paly cards all night. 6- They should go out with friends. b. Conditional sentence type 2: * Revise conditional sentence type 1: FORM: If clause Main clause S+ V/V(es/s).... S+ don’t/ doesn’t+ V Will/ can/..+ V Will/can+ Not+ V * Conditional sentence type 2: If were you, I would go to school by bus If I had alot of money, I would buy a new house and a car FORM: If clause Main clause S+ Ved/ V2 S+ were ..... S+ didn’t+ V Would/might/could..+ V Would/might/could+ Not+ V USAGE: + Meaning: The second conditional is used to talk about things which are unreal (not true or not possible) in the present or the future + Use: It is not used to talk about things that can happen in the present or future. PRACTICE What would you do in these situations? Make notes. (HANDOUT- NUMBER 2) (at the end of the lesson plan) 1- If you had any job in the world,.... 2- If you saw a ghost,... 3- If you found an expensive watch in the street,... 4- If you didn’t go to school,.... 5- If you won a million dollars,.... 6- If you found 100 euros in the street,.... Suggested answers: 1- If you had any job in the world, I would be an astronaut. 2- If you saw a ghost, I would take a photo of it. 3- If you found an expensive watch in the street, I would wear it everyday. 4- If you didn’t go to school, I would visit many countries all over the world. 5- If you won a million dollars, I would buy a modern car. 6- If you found 100 euros in the street, I would organise a great party. III. Consolidation: - Elicit the pronunciation of three dipthonghs. - Revise the modal verbs “should” and “shouldn’t + Modal verb: should and shouldn’t FORM: S+ should+ V S+ shouldn’t+ V - Revise the second conditional sentence. + Revise conditional sentence type 1: FORM: If clause Main clause S+ V/V(es/s).... S+ don’t/ doesn’t+ V Will/ can/..+ V Will/can+ Not+ V + Conditional sentence type 2: FORM: If clause Main clause S+ Ved/ V2 S+ were ..... S+ didn’t+ V Would/might/could..+ V Would/might/could+ Not+ V IV. Homework: Learn by heart the structures. Do exercise 1, 2 and 3 (Exercise on their textbook- English 10- page 102- 103) on their notebook. Prepare: Unit 10: Conservation Period 60: Reading - T divides the class into two big groups. - Ss listen to the T. - T explains the way to play the game “who is faster?”: I have some pictures about sea animals. I will show picture little by little. If you have the name of that animal, you raise the flag to get the chance for answering. If your answer is correct, you will get 1 small gift” - T leads in the new lesson. - Ss open their books and notebooks, listen to the T. - Ss take notes. - T shows small poster with three vowels. - Ss look at the poster. - T uses the sound fashcards and the body language to introduce the sounds and how to make the sounds correctly. - Ss listen to the T. - T asks Ss to listen and repeat the words on the poster and pay attention to the sounds by listening the audio. - Ss repeat after the T. - T calls some Ss to repeat the words. - Ss read aloud the words. - T gives feedback, comments if necessary. - Ss listen to the T. - T asks Ss to look at the sentences on page 102. - Ss look at the sentences. - T asks Ss to listen and repeat the sentence after the T in class, in groups (T chooses three sentences to practice in class, three of them will be practiced at home by the students). - Ss work in class, work in groups of three tables. - T gives the feedback and comments. - Ss listen to the T. - T introduces and gives the situations by using some pictures to introduce the new grammar point “should” and “shouldn’t”. - Ss listen to the T and take notes. After answering, she/ he will call any student to pick up the paper for the next person” - T asks Ss to do the activity “random sentences”. - Ss do the activity. - T feedbacks and gives correct answers after Ss’ answer key. - T asks Ss to remind the new knowledge that they have just studied. - T instructs homework for the Ss. - Ss listen to the T’s instructions and take notes.
