READING I.Objectives 1. Knowledge: Enrich their vocabulary by guessing the meaning of the words in the context. Understand the history of films and cinema. Do the exercise of finding words, answering the questions and identifying the main idea. 2. Skill: Throughout the lesson, students will be able to develop reading skills and related skills: speaking skills, listening skills and writing skills. 3. Attitude: Students develope their love for film and cinema topics and are interested in them II. Teaching method Communicative, approach. III. Teaching aids Textbooks, chalks, board. IV. Procedure Stage /Time Teacher’s activities Students’ activities I. Warm- up (3 minutes) II. Pre- reading ( 8 minutes) III. While- reading ( 25 minutes) IV. Post- reading ( 8 minutes) V.Home work(1 minutes) -Show 4 pictures and let them guess the name of the films. If they have correct answer, teacher will give them some presents. -Then ask students: +Do you like watching film? +Do you want to see a film at the cinema or on TV? Why? + Can you name some of the films you have seen? +What kind of films do you like to see?Why? - Lead to the new lesson: Now let's start our new lesson today: "Films and cinema". This lesson will help us understand more about films and the history of film industry. - Give students vocabulary and explain the meaning to students: *Vocabulary: cinema (n) /ˈsɪn.ə.mə/ : rạp chiếu phim, điện ảnh sequence (n) /ˈsiːkwəns/ : chuỗi nối tiếp, trình tự. decade (n) /ˈdɛkeɪd/ : thập kỉ = 10 years rapidly (adv) /ˈræp.ɪdli/ : nhanh, nhanh chóng = quickly character (n) /ˈkær.ək.tə/: nhân vật : nhân vật, tínhcách audience (n) /ˈɔːdɪəns/ : khán giả scene (n) /siːn/ : cảnh - Read new words. - Ask the whole class to listen and repeat new words. - Ask some students to read all the words aloud in front of the class. -Read the passage in silent in 4 minutes. -Lead in: to understand more about reading and use vocabulary usefully, we move to task 1. Task 2: Answer these questions. - Ask students to read the passage again. - Ask students to work in pairs and answer these questions. 1.When did the history of cinema begin? 2.What did scientists discover at that time? 3.Did films in the early days have sound? 4.When were audiences able to see long film? 5.When was sound introduced? 6.What form of films appeared as the old silent films were being replaced by spoken ones? - Give feedback and correct answers. -Lead in: now you have already understood the main aim of the reading. Now you can give me the best title for the reading. Task 3: Decide which of the options below is the best title for the passage. - Ask students choose the best title for the passage. A. The Story of a Film Maker B. A Brief History of Cinema C. The History of the Film Industry - Call some students to answer and explain by giving information from the passage. - Give feedback and correct answers. -Lead in: It’s time for you to summarize. After you read: Work in groups. Match the time with the suitable events. -Give students a chalk and asked them to match the time with the suitable events. -Move around to observe students’ working and offers help. 1. 19th century a.
