-Explains the rule: “You’re going to listen to some piece of soundtrack of some famous films. You have to guess the name of the films, and raise your hand, say Bingo to answer. The fastest group having the correct answer will be received 1 point. In the end, the group with the highest point will be the winner.”

-Checks understand.

-Plays the music.

-Keeps control over the game

-Checks the points, claims the winner.

FILMS AND CINEMA Reading Objectives By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: Develop reading micro-skills such as skimming for main ideas, summarising main ideas, scanning for specific ideas and gussing meaning in context. Use the cinema vocabulary in order to read and talk about the topic. Teaching aids Textbook Handouts Blackboard Cassette tapes/Loudspeaker Teaching method Communicative approach Procedure Stages Objectives Teacher’s activities Students’activities Before-reading (15’) Warm-up Guessing game: “What film is it?” (5’) -Warm students up. -Connect students to the topic of the lesson -Prepares some piece of soundtrack of some films. + Films: Titanic Descendants of the Sun Co Ba Sai Gon Harry Potter Frozen -Divides class into 4 groups. -Explains the rule: “You’re going to listen to some piece of soundtrack of some famous films. Pre-reading (10’) -Connect students to the topic of the reading text. -Prepare students for the while-reading section. -Asks students some questions on topic Films and cinemas: +Do you want to see film at the cinema or on TV? Why? +Can you name some of the films you have seen? +What kind of films do you like? -Calls on some students to answer the questions. -Gives vocabulary that appears in the text. +Set smt in motion: làm cho cái gì chuyển động. +replace A by/with B: thay thế A bằng B. +audience: khán giả +sequence:chuỗi +scene: cảnh +discover: khám phá, phát hiện +still (a): tĩnh -Pronouces and asks students to reapeat new words. -Asks some students to repeat -Listen to teacher -Raise hands and answer the questions. -Look at the board, write down the vocabulary on notebooks. -Pronounce the words. While-reading (20’) Task 1: Finding words (7’) -Give students chance to practice scanning on reading. -Sets the scene: “You’re going to read a text about the history of cinema.” -Asks students to read the text individually in 2 minutes. -Gives instructions for task 1: +They have to find the words in the passage can match with the definition in right column. +Instructs students to identify the part of speech of the words in table: 1.noun 2.noun 3.noun 4.adv 5.noun 6.noun -Gives students 3 minutes to do the task, goes around and helps students when necessary. -Checks answer with the whole class. Key 1.cinema Film-making industry 2.sequence Series of related events or actions 3.decade A period of ten years 4.rapidly Quickly and in a short time 5.scene Part of a film 6.character A person in a film -Listen to teacher’s instruction. -Read the text -Listen to teacher. -Do task 1 individually in 3 minutes. -Listen to teacher and check the answer. Task 2: Answer the questions (8’) -Give students chance to read for details. Instruction: “You’re going to read the passage again and answer the questions” -Instructs students to do the task: +Asks student to read through the 6 questions and underline the key words. +Instructs them locate the information for each question by finding the key words in the text and mark the place. +Asks them to work in pairs to do and discuss the answer. -Gives students 3 minutes to finish the task. -Calls on randomly some students and check the answer. Key: 1.In the early 19th century (line1) 2.They discovered that when a sequence of still pictures was set in motion, they could give the feeling of movement. (line 2-3) 3.No, they didn’t (line 5, lines 13-15) 4.In the early 1910s (line 9) 5.At the end of the 1920s (line 14) 6.The musical cinema (line 17) -Listen carefully to teacher’s instruction. -Read through the six questions. -Underline the key words. -Locate the information for each questions. -Answer the questions individually and discuss with partners. -Check the answer. Write down on notebooks. Task 3: Choosing the best title for the passgage (5’) -Let students summarise the main idea of the text. -Asks students to look at task 3. -Instructs students to use some strategies for this kind of task: +First, students read all the options A,B,C, underline the key words. +Go back to the text, read the first and the last sentences because normally, they contain the main idea of the text. -Lets students do individually, check the answer. Key: B -Listen to teacher. -Read the options and underline the key words. -Do the task -Check answer. Post reading (8’) Talking about history of cinema -Help students summarise and remember some information about history of cinema. -Asks the students to work in group of fours. -Instruction: You’re going to talk about the history of the cinema, using some cues. -Instructs students to talk: +By the cues on textbooks, take notes the main events. +Take turn in group to talk. -Calls on some students to talk about the history of cinema. -Gives feedback. -Listen to teacher’s instruction. -Work in group. Homework (2’) Sets the homework for students, reminds them to do it. Homework: Write about the history of cinema (5-7 sentences) Write down the homework on notebooks.
