Week: 10 Period: 30 Unit 6: AN EXCURSION A. READING I. Aims By the end of the lesson students will be able to: - get information about some beautiful places in Vietnam. - improve reading comprehension skill. II. Teaching aids: Textbook, large pictures of Thien Mu Pagoda, The One-Pillar Pagoda, Dalat, Ha Long Bay and posters. III. Homework ( 1’): - Review expressions for expressing agreements and disagreements -Close the books -Deal with the task in groups of four to tell what the capital letters (A,B,C,E,R,T and X ) stand for . Aims: By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to listen to number the pictures in the order, fill in the blanks with exact information. II. Teaching aids: - Posters, Pictures, Textbook III. Procedure: Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities I. Warm-up (5’): *Brainstorming: What do you often do at weekend? II. Pre-listening (10’) * Answer the questions - Have Ss work in pairs to ask and answer the questions. - Asks some pairs to give their answers. 1. Yes, I do. 2. I think the best time for a picnic is at weekends. 3. Because they want to relax after a week of working hard. * Listen and repeat: - Play the tape, asks Ss to repeat chorally twice - Gets some good Ss to repeat the words while others listen (books opened) - Explains the meaning III. While-listening (20’) *Task 1: - ask Ss to work in groups to discuss and arrange the pictures in the order. - Ask a representative of each group to give their opinions. - Let Ss listen to the tape twice, and then compare the answers - Ask Ss to give their answers. - (If necessary, play the cassette again) - Gives feedback * Task 2: - Give instructions and have Ss read the sentences quickly and guess the answers. - Lets Ss listen once and asks them to fill in the banks with the information they hear. - Asks Ss to compare the answers with their partner. Then asks Ss to give their answers. - Gives feedback * Task 3: - Gets Ss to read the questions quickly - Lets Ss listen once and discuss with a partner to answer the questions. - Asks some pairs to give their answers by asking and answering the questions while others listen. - Asks the class to give comments. - Gives feedback. IV. Brainstorming : (4’) - Ask Ss to work in 2 groups and write on board complaint Letter - Introduce the new lesson II. Pre-writing (10 ‘): - Ask Ss to read through the letter - Explain the new words +to pick someone up +to be convenient + as soon as possible (exp) +let someone have an early reply - Ask Ss to work in groups to find out Nga’s requests and Hoa’s confirmation - Go around to help Ss - Ask Ss to work in groups to discuss what they should write in a confirmation letter - Give Ss some words for confirming While-writing: -Make sure that Ss understand the situations v Letter 1 (controlled- writing): (10’) - Show the poster and ask Ss to work in groups and use the prompts given to write the letter w Prompts I’m glad/join/your birthday party/next Sunday I/have no lesson/that day I’ll be glad/go shopping/you You can be sure/I’ll bring bananas oranges and mangoes/your house/7:00/that day Let’s me know/you need/help I look forward/ see you then - Ask some groups to show their writings on the board, others read and give comments v Letter 2 (free-writing) (7’) - Ask Ss to write individually - Go around to help V.
