Educational aim: Students know the ways to listen to get specific information. 2. Knowledge: Some specific information about Van Cao – the great composer of Viet Nam. New words: adjectives to describe some musical characteristics. 3. Skills: - express opinions. - listen to get specific information. II. Methods: integrated, mainly communicative approach III. Teaching aids: PowerPoint, laptop, projector, handout. IV. Procedures: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Content I. Warm-up: (6 minutes) Aims: to introduce the topic of the lesson and to raise students’ interest - T asks ss to play the game. - T tells the rule Game: “Guess Who?” + Ss choose number 1/2/3/4. + T shows pictures and questions 1/2/3/4. + T asks Ss choose correct answer. Each answer is a suggestion. + Ss can guess name based on suggestions. + Based on the hints, who are we talking about? Van Cao - Rechecks and introduces the famous person: Van Cao “Do you know more information about Van Cao?” - To lead to the lesson. II. Pre-practice: (10 minutes) Aims: to provide some information and new words for students to understand the passage - T plays some songs of Van Cao (Suoi Mo, Truong Ca Song Lo, Lang Toi, Tien Quan Ca) and asks ss to choose songs which were written by Van Cao. “Which of these songs were written by Van Cao?” * Vocabulary: - Helps ss pronounce the words given. - Reads aloud first then asks ss to repeat. - Let students repeat in chorus and individually. - Asks the class which of the adjectives provided can be used to describe Van Cao’s music. III. While- Practice: (16 minutes) Task 1: True/ False (8 minutes) Aims: To help Ss practice listening and mark True/ False statements. - T introduces ss that they are going to listen to an interview in which Lan Huong, the interviewer, asks Quang Hung, a famous actor, about Van Cao. Listen and decide whether the statements are True or False. Put a tick (P) in the appropriate box. - Before listening, T asks ss to read these sentences and underline the key words in 2 minutes and guess True or False. - T asks some good ss to translate key words and sentences in Vietnamese and underline the key words: “guest of the show”, “sweet and gentle”, year, “proud of” - T suggests ss to listen to the tape concentratively and pay attention to the key words, and then decide whether the statements are true or false based on what they can hear. - T plays the tape once for students to do the task. - T asks for students’ answers. - Checks their answers by calling on some students and asks ss to correct when the statements are false. - If a lot of students have the same wrong answers, plays that point of the tape again for students to check their answers. - Gives the correct answers. Task 2: Answering questions (8 minutes) Aims: To help ss practice listening for specific information by answering questions. - Before listening, T asks ss to read the questions in 1 minutes. - T asks some good ss to translate the questions into Vietnamese. - T plays the tape twice and asks ss to listen to the tape and answer the questions based on what they can hear. - T asks Ss to work in pairs, answer the questions - T asks some pairs to stand up, ask and answer. - T plays the tape again for students to check their answers. - If a lot of students have the same wrong answers, plays that point of the tape again for students to check their answers. - Gives the correct answers. IV. Post- practice (10 minutes) - T asks ss to interview in pairs in 4 minutes. - T moves around and helps if necessary. - T calls on some pairs to interview. - T checks and gives remarks V. Home work: (3 minutes) - Ask students to learn by heart all new words and write a passage about their favorite music, songs and band. - Prepare for the next lesson: Section 4: Writing Guides students what they are going do in writing tasks and some expected results after doing these writing tasks. - Some students stand up, choose number and answer in roles - Ss guess “Van Cao” - Some students speak out their knowledge about Van Cao. Whenever the teacher speaks out a song name, students say whether it is a Van Cao’s song or not. - Students answer. - Listen to teacher then repeat in chorus and individually. - Students answer. Except for Van Cao, Quang Hung doesn’t like any other Vietnamese musicians. 3. Quang Hung thinks some of Van Cao’s music is very sweet and gentle. 4. “Tien Quan Ca”, the Vietnam National Anthem. Was written in 1954. 5. Quang Hung sometimes feels proud of his country, Vietnam, when he hears the song. The answers: 1. F (The guest show is Quang Hung) 2.
