Date of preparation : 25/03/2018 Date of teaching :28/03/2018 UNIT 13: FILM AND CINEMA Period 81: READING Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: Practice some reading skills such as scanning for specific ideas, skimming for main ideas, summarizing main ideas. Get to know vocabulary to talk about the topic “Film and cinema”. Method: Communicative approach. Teaching aids: Textbook, poster, board, handout, cassette. Procedure: Contents Activities I. Class Stabilization: (2’) T and Ss greet together. T checks attendance. II. Check-up: No III. Warm-up: (6’) Guessing game Rule: Listen to music and guess the name of the film. List of songs: - “My heart will go on” - “Everytime” - “Beauty and the Beast” -  “See you again” Answers: OST Film “My heart will go on” “Titanic” “Everytime” “Descendant of the sun” “Beauty and the Beast” “Beauty and the Beast” “See you again” “Fast and furious 7” Class work Ss are asked to listen to the pieces of songs and guess the name of the film. Ss raise the hand to answer and receive a small gift if it’s correct. After finishing the game, Ss are asked to guess the topic. T leads in the new lesson. IV. New lesson: 1. Before you read: (10’) Activity 1: Answering the questions 1. Do you want to see a film at the cinema or on TV? Why? 2. Can you name some of the films you have seen? Suggested answers: 1. I prefer to see a film on TV to at the cinema because it’s more comfortable. 2. Some of the films I’ve seen are Gone With The Wind, Tom and Jerry, Independent Day, Activity 2: Teaching vocabulary 1. discover /dɪˈskʌvə(r)/ (v) = find out: khám phá Ex: Columbus discovered the America in the 15th century. 2. sequence /ˈsiːkwəns/ (n): series of related events or actions: trình tự 3. decade /ˈdekeɪd/ (n): a period of ten years: thế kỷ 4. existence /ɪɡˈzɪstəns/ (n): the state of being present : sự tồn tại 5. scene /siːn/ / (n): a part of film in which the action happens: cảnh 6. audience /ˈɔːdiəns/ (n): viewer: khán giả 7. character /ˈkærəktə(r)/ (n): a person or an animal in a film: nhân vật 8. motion /ˈməʊʃn/ (n): the process of moving: sự vận động. Pair work Ss are asked to work in pairs to answer the questions in Before you read - T goes around to help if necessary - T invites some Ss to answer the questions orally. - T checks and gives feedback. T provides Ss with some new words in many ways: explanation. examples. synonym. translation. T models to read several times. Ss repeat in chorus. Ss repeat individually. T corrects. Ss copy down the new words. 2. While you read: (16’) Activity 3: Game: “Scrambled words” Rule: - There are 6 scrambled words - Put letters into a correct order to make a meaningful word (that already appears in the passage). (Handout 1) - T asks Ss to read the passage individually. - Ss read the passage and then take part in the game. - T asks some Ss to give the answers of scrambled words. - T checks and gives feedback. - Then, Ss are asked to match the word with the definition. - T goes around to help if necessary - T asks some Ss to give the answers. - T gives feedback. Group work The class is divided into two groups. T gives instruction. Ss in each group take turn to choose the number and answer the question. T gives answer keys and feedback. 3. After you read: (6’) Activity 6: Gap – filling Fill in the blanks with the suitable information from the passage.
