Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to know about the brief history of cinema. II. Teaching techniques: Group work, pair work, explanation, repetition, guessing picture, gap-fill III. Language: Grammar: It was not until.... that ...... Vocabulary: words related to films and cinema. IV. Teaching aids: Textbook, blackboard, pictures, powerpoint V. Method: mainly communicative approach. VI. Procedure: Stages/ Time Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Warm-up (6’) * Puzzle game: T divides class into 4 groups. T gives each group pieces of a picture. Ss have 2 minutes to complete the picture and stick it on the board. The group with the correct picture first will be the winner. T announces the winner. T leads into the lesson. T asks Ss to answer 3 questions (p.132): Do you want to see a film at the cinema or on TV? Why? Can you name some of the films you have seen? What kind of films do you like to see? Why? Ss work in groups and follow T’s instructions. Ss answer the questions freely. Pre -listening (10’) T teaches some words taken from reading passage: discover (v): khám phá = find out → discovery (n) T asks Ss: Ex: Columbus find out the Americas in the 15th century. What does it mean in Vietnamese? What’s the synonym of find out? T shows the word on the screen.
