HOBBIES Lesson Plan – Tieng Anh 11 Trần Nguyễn Minh Khôi UNIT 13 PART B: SPEAKING Objective: By the end of the lesson students will have: learnt vocabularies related to hobbies. practiced making a conversation about hobbies. practiced speaking in oral fluency and talking about their own experience. been more aware of the importance of hobbies in life. Time: 45 minutes Techniques: Lexical items and structure(s): Some new vocabulary items: classify Category Name tag Second-hand Teaching aids: textbook,projector, speaker,... Procedures: Stages Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities Warm - up (7 mins) I. Warm up:No Need For Word - T divides the class into 6 groups (6-8 ss). - T provides each group with a mini – board and a marker. - T gives the rules: A student from one group will go to the board randomly. I will show a picture to the rest of the students . The student on the board will face the board and can not see the picture, another members of that group describes the activity in the picture so that the student on the board can understand and write it on the board. No one can say anything. Activities : Diving Playing chess Collecting stamps Shopping Collecting shoes Reading books - T lets ss play the game. - T keeps controlling over the game, gives feedback to ss’ answers and claims the winner. - T asks ss some questions to lead in the lesson: What is your hobby? What kinds of activity do you do in your free time? Why do we need a hobby? Is it important to us? Lead – in:Hobby is a way to relax yourself. Now to explore more about the importance of HOBBIES, let’s move to Unit 13: HOBBIES, section B Speaking. - Ss work in group - Ss listen to the T’s instruction. - Ss answer some checking understanding questions and play the game. - Ss exchange their board to other groups to check the answers. -Ss answer the T’s questions. Pre - speaking (10 mins) II. Before you read: Teaching vocabulary: - T introduces some new vocabulary items: classify (v) /'klæsifai/   [using simple explanation ] Ex : Trash is “classified” into 2 group Recycle and Disposal Name tag (n) /neim-tag/ category (n) /'kætigəri/ [explanation] Ex: Act Of Valors is a movie in action category Second-hand(adj/adv) /´sekənd¸hænd/ [explanation] Ex : Nhat Tao is a market which is famous for second-hand electronic devices Pen-friend (n) /´pen¸frend/ [explanation] Ex: John is my American pen-friend. We exchange mail each month. Broaden (v) /´brɔ:dən/ [explanation] Ex :The new highway has been broadened so that it has more lanes. - T elicits the new words from the ss. - T models twice and asks Ss to repeat chorally - T calls some Ss to repeat the word and corrects their pronunciation. - T pronounces and asks Ss to repeat new words. T asks ss to work individually and do task 1 T keeps controlling the class. T will ask a ss randomly to the board. Task 2(p.149) T sets the situation :”Lan is talking to Huong about her hobby of collecting books.” T will show the paragraph and the highlight words and phrases HUONG: What is your hobby, Lan ? LAN: Well, I like collecting books. HUONG: Could you tell me how you collect your books ? LAN: Well, this must be done regularly .Whenever I find a book which is interesting I buy it immediately . HUONG: Where do you buy your books ? LAN: I buy some from the bookshop near my house and some others from second-hand book-stalls. Sometimes my friend, my mum and dad give me some. HUONG: How do you organize yours collection? LAN: I classify them into different categories and put each category in one corner of my bookshelf with a name tag on it. HUONG: What do you plan to do next , Lan ? LAN: I think I'll continue to make my collection richer and richer. After speaking: Talk about hobbies Task 3 (P.149) - T will shows the suggestions of the speaking SUGGESTION : Hobby How to How to organization Where to keep Why Plan of the future T asks ss to work in pairs then ask and talk about their hobbies - T calls a pair to go to the board Ss have to describe their partner hobbies. -SS work in pairs talking about music by using the suggestions. - Each pair has 1min – 1.30 mins to perform.
