1. Warm up:(4’)

- Showing pictures and giving a situation :

“Yesterday Nga and her friends went on a picnic. They had a meal on the beach, but they didn’t bring water. So they had to spend a lot of money on water.”

From that situation, we can say that” If they had brought water, they wouldn’t have spent a lot of money on water.”

And today we'll practise expressing regrets, using the structure contained in this sentence.

2. Pre-speaking (10’)

* Task 1,

- Ask students to read it silently.

- Explain the meanings of some words:

+ carsick (n) (using situation).

+ fine (n) (using situation).

+ poisoning (situation).

- Ask Ss to discuss in groups to match things in column A with those in column B.

- Go around for helping if possible.

- Ask some Ss to say aloud the answers.

- Give feedback.

3. While-speaking:(20’)

* Task 2,

- Tell Ss that the situation in task 1 happened in the past and if Nga's class wants to express what they wish had or hadn't happened they have to use the conditional type 3 with the following form:

- Give a model for student to practice.

A: I heard you went by coach so most of you got carsick.

B: If we hadn't gone by coach, we wouldn't have got carsick.

PRONUNCIATION: - Show pictures of a dog, a hand, a doctor, a taxi, a cat, a taxi-driver, .and ask Ss to give each a name - Read the words and ask Ss to repeat - Ask Ss the question: ”What sound you are going to learn today?” - Read the sounds /t /, /d / and ask Ss to repeat - Show pictures of the movement of the mouth when pronouncing the sounds /t / and /d / and explain the difference Practice: *Listen and repeat - Read aloud the words and ask Ss to repeat - Have Ss read the words again, correct their pronunciation *Practise these sentences - Read the sentences and ask Ss to repeat after T twice, paying attention to the two vowels /t / and /d / - Ask Ss to read the sentences and pick out the words having the two vowels /t / and /d / Production ( if having time) -Use some cardboards – ask the class to read the words while some ss write them on the bb in turns :Ex: doctor, hat, taxi, worked, lived, invader . . . Teaching aids: - Handouts, posters. III. Procedures: Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities Warm-up (5 minutes) - Give students handouts of four letters. a. Letter of Acceptance b. Letter of Complaint c. Confirmation letter d. Letter of Refusal e. Invitation letter - Asks students to work in pairs to match one letter with a suitable kind of letter then underline the language used to express acceptance and refusal in these letters. I. Pre-writing (15 minutes) - Ask Ss to discuss in groups of four to find the ways of accepting and refusing. - Walk around for help when necessary. - Ask Ss to give answers. Task 1: - Ask Ss to do the task in pairs. - Walk around the class to monitor and help ss. Task 2: - Ask Ss to make groups of four and do Task 2. - Monitor and give feedback. - Help Ss to find out the format of an acceptance or refusal letter basing on the above letters. II. While writing: (15 minutes) - Divide the class into 2 groups. - Ask a group to write a letter to accept the invitation of going to the cinema and another group to write a letter to refuse that invitation. - Ask Ss to sit into groups of four to do the task on the posters. - Walk around and offer help when necessary. - Ask some groups to stick their posters on the board. III. Post writing: (10 minutes) - Ask other groups to remark. -Help Ss to correct mistakes (typical mistake correction) Homework: - Ask Ss to write a letter to refuse the invitation of going to the cinema if they had written an acceptance letter and in contrast. - Work in pairs to find out the answers.
